10 Tips for an Instantly Better Day

Life has a habit of throwing things at us, often when we least expect it. But also we all have days when for no reason we just wake up and feel low. That can make it hard to get through the day and if you are someone who runs your own business and then it can be very tough to motivate yourself.

So here are some tips to give you a quick boost when you need it.

Do it anyway

So you don’t feel like getting out of bed or going to your office or work but just do it anyway. It’s amazing how just getting on with the day can improve your mood. It’s often wise to wear something you feel good in, slap on a smile and then just DO IT.

Give yourself a treat

It doesn’t have to be big or expensive but you can often get a real lift from treating yourself to a nice coffee or arranging to meet a mate for lunch -or even taking a few treats into the office. Of course it doesn’t have to be food or drink orientated, maybe buy a new pen or notebook, anything you fancy that will just give you a bit of an instant lift.

Change your routine

Whatever the reason for your low mood feeling that things are mundane or routine certainly won’t help. So if it’s possible and obviously it isn’t always, then schedule something a bit different to fit into your day. Even a job you have been putting off like tidying up an area or filing cabinet can help simply because it’s different. But on a day like this it could be just what you need to lift your mood and there is a lot of satisfaction in getting something done that you have been putting off.

Enjoy a bit of nature

There is something very uplifting about nature, if you can make time for a walk outside, in a park for example it can be a real boost. If that isn’t possible then you can always use the internet – there are lots of clips of sea, rivers, trees, fountains etc – second best but it can still help to lift your mood.

Plan something for the future

We all enjoy having something to look forward to – remember the high that you get when you book a trip or a nice weekend with friends or family. It doesn’t have to be as big as a holiday, unless your down days are very rare but organising a trip out or seeing someone you haven’t seen for a while, a nice meal out or trip to the cinema can all do the trick of giving you something to look forward to and help you get through a tricky day.

Make a list of things you can be grateful for

It such an old idea to ‘count your blessings’ but it does really work, and there is evidence it does change your mood  https://successstory.com/inspiration/why-being-grateful-is-great-for-you

So get out a paper and pen and find something you can be grateful – guaranteed there will be something and usually once you start you’ll be able to thing of lots of other things

Do a quick life stocktake

As humans we all have up days and down days but sometimes our mood is the body’s way of telling us something isn’t right. Maybe we aren’t getting enough sleep or we’ve let our exercise regime slip, maybe our diet is lacking in a lot of nutrients. Bur there are other possible causes, a down day is quite normal but maybe there are some areas of life that we just aren’t that happy about. If that is the case be honest with yourself and decide to make some changes.

Think positive thoughts

It is true that often it’s not our situation that causes us problems but our thoughts about that situation. I’m not saying git is easy but our thoughts are something we can control, or at least something we can LEARN to control. If you find yourself plagued but depressing thoughts then make a point of actively trying to think positive thoughts – you can read more here https://hubpages.com/health/5-Reasons-Why-You-Should-Tame-Your-Thoughts

Determine NOT to beat yourself up

One of the problems with having a bit of a low mood is that for many of us it signals an onset of ‘harsh criticism’ – FROM OURSELVES. Problem is clearly it just makes things worse so decide NOT to do that – a good way of framing it is to think about what you would say to a friend in your position. – We are somehow able to be a lot kinder to others than we often are with ourselves.

Indulge in some laughter

It doesn’t matter if it’s listening to jokes, watching a favourite sit com or even some crazy cat videos on you tube – laughter lightens our mood as it releases some feel good hormones – so even a few snatched minutes on a coffee break can do wonders for your mood. Read more here

But remember that as much as it is normal to have a down day f this is happening repeatedly then maybe there is a root cause – you might want to think about a mindset course like the one we are running on November the 11th  – rad more and book your place here
