Wow how time flies! Just completed another Sounds-write training course with teachers in Milton Keynes and enjoyed delivering training with one of the authors of the Sounds-write programme. Recently I have come across a number of students who really struggle with reading and it is amazing to be able to help often they just have not been taught the skills they need to be successful readers and the  sounds-write programme can quickly give them those skills. In schools we teach reading in reception and year 1 and 2 but if for some reason a child doesn’t grasp it then schools never actually seem to teach them to read later on in their school life. Not being literate or not being confident with reading does simply prevent students accessing the curriculum so it really needs addressing.
